Maria Carrillo’s Varsity football team makes a comeback at piner’s football game, which leads to several players on the opposing team injured. On october 13 2023, Carrilo had an away game at piner and ended up winning by 49-19.

The game started rough for our Pumas. Piner’s team came out the gate with high spirits, beginning the game with a quick touchdown and carrying the momentum from there. The bleachers were full of shouts and encouragement fueled by school spirit. There was even a smoke blast fired as the crowd went wild. The game didn’t look good, until it very quickly did.

In an unexpected surge forward, the Pumas scored a touchdown. Piner quieted down as Carrillo’s bleachers grew lively. Then another touchdown. Almost tied.

The game went to halftime as the cheer teams took the field to perform their routines. Momentarily, the competition was forgotten as music and incredible displays of rhythm and movement captured the crowd. As it came to an end, however, the game was on.

Almost immediately, the Pumas achieved an amazing turnover and scored another touchdown. From there, it was a slaughter. The Piner team, partially due to their team size forcing each member to play more, suffered injury after injury, frequently stopping to stretch cramps and pulled muscles as the Carrillo team scored again and again.

Finally, it was over. The Pumas pulled off a comeback victory, defeating Piner at their own homecoming game. Way to go Pumas!
