Elon Musk uses AI to replace Wikipedia

Anyone researching online or just having a common question has used Wikipedia, however some criticize it for being biased. Therefore, on October 27, 2025, Elon Musk created his own Wikipedia named after his generative AI model, Grok: Grokipedia.
Musk is a born rich billionaire who owns Tesla, Inc. and X, formerly known as Twitter. He created Grok as a large language model on March 17, 2024.
Wikipedia is not a website with a perfect record. Many teachers criticize it because anyone can edit Wikipedia pages, and that can make the information unreliable. Despite that, this can also be considered one of Wikipedia’s strengths, because it makes the free market a place where ideas and information can spread quickly. If someone spreads misinformation, people will simply edit it and that person will be banned. Wikipedia also has clearance levels with controversial articles. In contrast, Grokipedia does not allow anyone to edit, except Musk which causes problems with bias within the articles.
In the future, it may allow others to edit articles however as of October 29, Grokipedia is in its early stages of development. It currently has over 800,000 articles. Many on Musk’s new site are nearly identical to Wikipedia. When viewing a simple topic like the article about cake, it is largely plagiarized from Wikipedia’s article. It was written by Grok and that AI has a record of spewing misinformation. For a topic like George Floyd, they don’t mention how a white cop murder a black person and paints the protest as “riots causing billions in property damage”. Notably, Grokipedia includes bigoted conspiracy theories and slurs for trans people. Also there isn’t any article on Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk’s daughter. Additionally, people are not able to inspect the code unlike on Wikipedia, which many find suspicious.
The articles on Grokipedia have dubious quality and lack many critical features of Wikipedia. Although anyone can access Grokipedia, not just anybody can edit it, which is antithetical to Wikipedia’s goal of being a collection of the internet. The future of Grokipedia is wary, and it looks like it is not going to replace Wikipedia anytime soon.
