Ruby Brodt, a junior at MCHS, didn't think she would be a performing arts kid, but a little class mishap changed everything. When she was applying for classes in middle school, she was placed in the theater class by accident. However, Brodt soon realized that performing arts had so much to offer and gave her the chance to make new friends.
Brodt says that every play must be carefully rehearsed. This way, the play can go smoothly and give a good impression on the audience.
Brodt has been in several different plays and musicals on behalf of her middle and high schools, including She Kills Monsters, The Lion King, Newsies, and The Wizard of Oz.
Brodt says that the theatrical environment is very friendly and inviting, and it was easy for her to make friends there.
She stated that “it's a fun environment to be in. Theater people are really great. It's a good way to express yourself. It's really important to express yourself and feel safe in the environment, but it's really important to take care of yourself.”
Overall, Brodt really enjoys being in performing arts, and has plenty of new friends she can thank the class for helping her make. Had she not been accidentally placed in performing arts, that fateful middle school year, she would not have had all those wonderful experiences and friends.
