Maria Carrillo High School's Lady Pumas snuck away with a close win against the Montgomery Vikings on September 21, 2026, winning 7 to 6. Blankets were out as people curled up at 7 p.m., ready to cheer their Pumas onto victory.
It was an exciting game with plenty of highlights from interceptions and near goals.
In the first quarter, there were multiple interceptions by both the Pumas and the Vikings which led to tension on the Pumas side.
In the second quarter, one of the Vikings was able to run deep into Puma territory. However, the play ended in another interception by one of the Pumas.
The third quarter brought a near-touchdown for the Vikings which brought cheers from Montgomery's side that quickly died off and were replaced by Carrillo's.
The game remained 0-0 until the fourth quarter, when, with 4:10 seconds remaining, the Pumas finally scored a thrilling touchdown which boosted the crowd's already high spirits.
The temperatures dropped but the excitement rose as the crowd cheered the Lady Pumas to their victory. The last three minutes brought intense playing and quickness. With 7.6 seconds left, the Montgomery Vikings scored a touchdown, bringing the game to 7 to 6.
But the Pumas managed to hold their ground and defend their line for the last few seconds, snagging a win, and ending everyone's night with a bang.
