A stellar outside linebacker and running back, sophomore Kaysen Sundara on the Maria Carrillo High School junior varsity football team has achieved the award of Athlete of the Week for October 12, 2026  due to his persistent dedication to his team, endurance, and push to improve.

Sundara is a two sport student athlete, playing both football and basketball. He started playing football when he was six, and began “playing basketball since I was born,” building his sports aptitude consistently. Sundara emphasized the fact that his “favorite part about being on a sports team is being able to make new friends,” finding his deepest connections in the ones built on the field and court.

Freshman junior varsity player Cooper Baron notes that Sundara is an incredible athlete, stating, “he plays like he doesn’t care about anyone but his team.” Baron also describes Sundara as “raw,” “very good” and “locked in,” solidifying Sundara's dedication to his teammates.

Sundara also deeply connects with his religious roots, balancing his busy schedule “by just being calm and having God in my life.” He makes sure to pray during hard times, and “make it to church every Sunday” despite other responsibilities he may have.

Sundara is an elite student athlete, constantly showing his emotional and physical strength, playing through rage, injury, and hard times. Despite his stardom, Sundara wouldn't be the player he is without his motivation stemming from his dad. He explains that his dad keeps his spirits high by pushing him to workout almost everyday, and that he “always encourages me to do better.” Sundara also finds comfort in his Mom showing up to every game, and the consistent love and support from both of his parents teaches Sundara that his efforts pay off.

Beyond his impressive versatility as a two sport athlete, Sundara's true strength lies in his character, faith, and family roots. Guided by his parents' unwavering encouragement and anchored by his devotion to his team, he continues to demonstrate what it means to be a leader both on and off the field. As his high school career unfolds, there is no doubt that Sundara’s relentless work ethic and dedication will keep driving him toward greater achievements.
